Bombers Burrito bar is well known for making taste buds blast all across the Capital Region, and is set to open another location in Troy. City residents and leaders are certainly excited about the food, but they're also salivating over how the hot spot can spice up local business.
TROY, N.Y. -- A brand new Bombers is set to explode on the scene in Troy. A historic building on King Street is expected to be the site for the burrito bistro, one the Collar City's been craving.
"We're so excited they've decided to come here, to open here, they're going to be in a beautiful historic building," said Elizabeth Young, Troy BID president.
With locations already in Albany and Schenectady, the plan to come to Troy has been cooking for about five years. The franchisees have most of their approvals, now just need a final building permit to start heating things up.
"It's right at the gateway coming across the Green Island Bridge, and it's just going to start redeveloping that area of King Street and Federal," said Mayor Lou Rosamilia.
Making it just one more section of the Troy that will undergo a makeover as several popular eateries have changed the city's landscape in recent years. This latest addition to the menu will also add a hearty helping of jobs.
"I believe their plan calls for 70 new jobs, and any business that comes in and creates that many new jobs is so welcome here," said Young.
It also doesn't hurt when you know the key to the city's heart is through its stomach.
"Based on what I've heard, I can't wait to enjoy those burritos and taste some of the beverages," said Rosamilia.
They hope to begin construction on the new Troy Bombers as soon as the city issues the final construction permits.
