ALBANY, N.Y. -- Controversial JCOPE member Ravi Batra was taken to the hospital Thursday, immediately after a hearing on the disclosure of donor information by lobbying groups.
Batra was alert and sitting up when he was loaded into the ambulance. There is no word on why the ambulance was called.
The Senate Democrat's appointment to the commission has been one of the more controversial members of the committee. He openly voiced concern over leaks from the commission when word came out that an ethics complaint had been filed against Senate Republican Tom Libous.
On Thursday, he was the only commissioner who asked any questions of the good government groups who were testifying about what rules should be set up for disclosing information about donors to lobbying groups.
Under the new law, even good government groups would have to disclose their donors.
