ALBANY, N.Y. -- Senator Chuck Schumer is calling for pedestrian access when a rail bridge between Albany and Rensselaer is replaced.
In a news conference today, Schumer is set to urge CSX, the Department of Transportation, and Amtrak to include a pedestrian-friendly walkway as they develop plans for the Livingston Avenue bridge.
He says giving pedestrians and bicyclists easy access between downtown Albany and Rensselaer’s waterfront will be beneficial to both cities.
The current bridge has been closed to pedestrian traffic for more than a decade.
