WOODSTOCK, N.Y. -- People gathered in Woodstock's village green Friday to bid goodbye to Levon Helm.
Music was played to pay tribute to the former Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
An ear shot away, another fan waits to give Levon a personal send off.
"This is where he's came and this is where he's been and this is where his final resting place will be,” said Woodstock resident Ricochet.
Levon's home and final resting place is as locals describe, a place about old fashioned rock and roll and community.
"He was the essence of Woodstock. He was what Woodstock was really about," said Jeanette Aprile, store owner.
And it was through its center that the funeral procession traveled, bringing Levon's casket to the Woodstock Cemetery. That's where the sound of horns and beating of drums could be heard by friends, family and fans in town.
The songs keeping the beat similar to those who knew Levon say he lived his life.
"I feel he lived a good life and he's home. Ramble on," said Richocet.
