Several people are without a home after two houses along Broadway in Rensselaer go up in flames. Our Innae Park has more.

RENSSELAER, N.Y. -- Officials are investigating what caused a fire that damaged two homes in Rensselaer. The fire broke out around 7 p.m. Wednesday and engulfed two houses at 901 and 903 Broadway.

Multiple crews rushed to the scene to put the fire out.

All of the people living in both houses made it out safely with no injuries. However, one of the residents lost one of his closest friends.

"My dog's name was Marley. He was the best dog ever. He was gonna be three years next month. He was the best dog that you could ever possibly ask for,” Michael Kenyon said.

"I opened the back door and told everyone to get out. So we're lucky to get out with our lives. That's all that matters,” Susan Haight said.

It has not been determined where the fire originated, but residents say it started on the back porch.
