ALBANY, N.Y. -- After 20 years with the Albany Police Department, Public Information officer James Miller is retiring. A ceremony was held Friday for Miller. The Police Department and Albany's Mayor Jerry Jennings were in attendance.
Miller said while he will miss his job, he's built many relationships that he knows he'll take with him. He said he tried to achieve one of those relationships through the nature of his role in the community.
"We have a responsibility, whether it’s good or bad news, to get that out to the public, because they’re the ones who pay our salaries and they are the ones who need to know what’s going on in their neighborhoods, communities and towns, and in my position I was responsible for that, and I took it very seriously,” said Jimmy Miller, retiring Albany PD Spokesperson.
Miller was PIO for 13 of his 20 years with the department. Steven Smith will be Albany's new PIO and has been shadowing Miller for the past five weeks.
