PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- What will ultimately become a charter review committee for the City of Pittsfield is now taking shape. The city council has adopted a set of recommendations for the panel, which will be charged with updating the city's charter.
The council met Wednesday night to finalize its suggestions on how the committee should function. Those suggestions include a panel of 11 members - seven chosen by the council, and the other four selected by Mayor Dan Bianchi.
A paid consultant would accompany the panel, which would report back to the city six months after it starts reviewing the charter. The council would like the review panel to follow up at the 12 month mark with recommendations to change the charter.
The council's suggestions have been sent to Mayor Bianchi for approval.
Barring no big changes, the council will approve its guidelines for the review panel next week during its next meeting.
