SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- State senator Roy McDonald insists he's still a republican and has no plans of becoming a democrat.

McDonald issued a statement saying he has not been in discussions to become a member of the Democratic party. This comes after the Saratoga County Republican Party held off on endorsing him over the weekend.

McDonald also lost the state and county Conservative party backing after voting in favor of same sex marriage. The state Independence party endorsed him earlier this month.

Part of the statement he released reads: "During this election I will be working to earn the Republican endorsement in the forty-third senate district, and will be running a positive campaign focused on my record of reducing taxes, creating jobs and working hard on behalf of the communities I represent."
