After the weekend break, witness testimony resumed Monday at the Matthew Slocum murder trial. Jurors head from five witnesses, including a state police DNA expert whose testimony could prove especially damning to the defendant. Matt Hunter has the details.

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- The Matthew Slocum murder trial resumed Monday with five witnesses taking the stand. Up first was a blood spatter expert who analyzed blood patterns found at the crime scene and on evidence. He said the spatters found on Loretta Colegrove’s tank top were not consistent with those of a person who shot three people with a shotgun at close range.

Up next was Dan Myers, a New York State Police forensic scientist who conducted DNA analysis of the evidence collected by state troopers. He testified that Lisa Harrington’s blood was found on the alleged murder weapon, along with that of another male. While he was unable to conclude whose blood that was, he said the blood contained alleles that were present in Slocum’s blood, but not Dan Harrington’s or Josh O’Brien's blood. He also said Loretta Colegrove’s DNA was not found on the weapon.

Defense attorneys argued comparing alleles is not a proper form of DNA analysis.

After Myers, the New Hampshire state trooper who gathered evidence in that state testified. He was followed by the New York State Trooper who accompanied Loretta Colegrove to the site in Massachusetts where she and Slocum allegedly dumped stolen guns.

Finally, Robin MacNeil, a Washington County Child Protective Services employee, testified that in her interview with Slocum at the county jail just days after his arrest, the defendant told her that Colegrove had nothing to do with the July 13th murders.

Counting the one witness who testified in July, we’ve now seen 12 people take the stand.

We did see the father of Dan Harrington at the courthouse Monday, and we know he’s on the witness list, so we would not be surprised to see him on the stand when court resumes Tuesday.
