Troy, Schenectady, and now Albany. President Barack Obama will be making his third trip to the Capital Region this Tuesday when he visits UAlbany's NanoTech Complex. But that wasn't on the original schedule. YNN's Beth Croughan reports.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- On Thursday, Republican Congressman Chris Gibson and Democrat Paul Tonko held a joint press conference. The topic was President Obama's third trip to the Capital Region and first ever trip to Malta's GlobalFoundries. But since then, travel plans have changed.

"You know, I understand from the White House that they made this decision because of logistics," said Congressman Chris Gibson, NY-20.

It was a decision for the president to visit SUNY Albany's NanoTech Complex instead.

"Attempting to get a motorcade from the Albany airport to the easiest possible access," said Congressman Paul Tonko, NY-21.

The college is more than 15 miles closer to the airport than the Fab 8 plant. But the work and research being conducted at both locations will be highlighted during Tuesday's trip. GlobalFoundries is helping to host.

"I think it's flattering that he can acknowledge that there's so many choices whereby you can hold a press conference that speaks to the thematic of innovation, and clean energy, and high-tech job growth," said Tonko.

Tonko said the president wants to show the success of the region to the rest of the nation, a success involving public and private partnerships and investments in education. And a success, he said, that will keep our country competitive.

"The president has advanced some record, historic proportions of dollars that go towards this cutting-edge precision-oriented advanced manufacturing. We have the skill sets in this area. We're growing them even more deeply, more profoundly, and we're going to continue to invest our way to tomorrow," he said.

Available parking, operational concerns and construction were also factors cited by a GlobalFoundries spokesman for the change in venue.
