SkyTracker Doppler radar is now at your fingertips. SkyTracker is an observational and forecasting tool used by the YNN meteorologists. SkyTracker gives you a view straight into the YNN Weather on the 9s Forecast Center. When the meteorologists change their view of the SkyTracker to isolate severe weather, you'll get the same view right here. Read more below…
YNN’s SkyTracker is constantly scanning our skies to keep you and your family safe and to help you plan your busy day.
SkyTracker is a composite view of four National Weather Service Doppler radars, strategically located around the region. These are the most-powerful Doppler radars in existence, giving you the best view of precipitation and approaching storms.
With SkyTracker, our meteorologists can see inside the storms to determine their strength and motion. That provides you with early warning storm detection, storm signatures, storm tracking with estimated time of arrival to your neighborhood.
SkyTracker allows us to determine how hard it is raining or snowing, whether or not there is hail present in a thunderstorm, or if there is rotation within a thunderstorm that could produce a tornado.
This same technology also allows us to determine how fast the storm is moving and when it will arrive in your neighborhood. With our street mapping technology we can pinpoint a storm’s location, right down to a square block or crossroads.
Whether you are tuning to YNN’s Weather on the 9s or visiting our website, you will always be up to date with the latest SkyTracker Doppler radar information.
