CAPITAL REGION -- A contractor is chosen for the Twin Bridges rehabilitation project.
Lane Construction Corporation out of Connecticut was chosen for the $29 million project. Repairs to the bridges' bearings, joints and concrete substructure are scheduled to begin later this month.
The company plans to have concrete deck panels made off site to minimize the impact on traffic. Deck replacement will begin late this summer on the northbound bridge. There will be weekend closures during the deck replacement portion of the project.
While work is done to the northbound bridge, traffic will cross over onto the southbound bridge. One lane will carry traffic heading south and one lane will carry traffic heading north.
The traffic pattern will be the same next spring when deck replacement is scheduled to take place on the southbound bridge. There will be no lane closures during the week.
The state's DOT Commissioner said 100,000 motorists use the Twin Bridges each day.
