SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. -- Tuesday was the last day of classes at Hoosic Valley High School and many students were surprised to be greeted by lots of graffiti.
Sabrina Fitzgerald, a student at Hoosic Valley High School, said, "When I got to school in the morning, there was a giant pot leaf and I looked out the window and it said things like ‘F the police.’"
Investigators with the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office tell us the incident happened sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday. They say swastikas and other derogatory words, including some racial slurs, were spray painted in various locations including windows, fields and the track.
Fitzgerald said, "It made me disappointed and kind of mad because it's our parents’ tax money being wasted. Our school does so many nice things and they destroyed it and it's just not cool."
The Superintendent of Schools Doug Kelley wouldn't comment on the incident, only saying the school is working closely with the sheriff’s office to investigate the case. While it's unclear if this was all a senior prank, many say regardless it went too far.
Shane Holcomb, an investigator with the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office, said, "Senior pranks are one thing, but when you're damaging property and causing pain to other people, it's unacceptable and won't be tolerated.''
Four people are still being questioned by investigators who tell us the group will likely be arrested Thursday morning. They will likely be charged with felony criminal mischief, given the fact the incident could be considered a hate crime. If you have any information, call the Renssealer County Sheriff's Office.
