SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- With the Easter holiday right around the corner, last minute shopping for goodies is in full swing.
Dozens of people headed over to Uncle Sam's Homemade Candy in Schenectady on Saturday. A tradition for many families we spoke to, the shop pumped out over twelve thousand chocolate bunnies this week in preparation for the Easter holiday.
Owner Joe Suhrada said he was making candy three shifts a day, with staff putting together treats like hand decorated chocolates and the customer favorite, the completely edible Easter basket.
He says Uncle Sam's offering has evolved, adding signature items like truffle eggs and chocolate dipped peeps to the more traditional array of jelly bellies and butter crunch.
But, according to Suhrada and his customers, one thing has remained after all of these years.
Suhrada said he has seen more shoppers this year than in the last couple of years. Uncle Sam's is open until 6 p.m. Saturday, and will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Easter Sunday.
