MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- People took to the streets in Middletown as part of St. Joseph's outdoor Stations of the Cross procession.

The Stations of the Cross is a series of artistic representations depicting Christ carrying the cross to his crucifixion in the final hours before his death. Members of the church say it's important to keep the tradition alive and remind themselves as well as the community of the sacrifice that Jesus made.

The pastor of the church says he's encouraged by the number of people who took part.

"It's always good to see the entire community come out with the various languages and ethnic backgrounds of our entire community coming together and praying as one," Pastor Dennis Nikolic said.

St. Joseph's will be having an Easter Vigil Saturday night at 7:30.
