WALDEN, N.Y. -- A community comes together to help raise thousands of dollars in the fight battle against childhood cancer.
Dozens of people gathered at the Walden firehouse on Old Orange avenue, to have their heads shaved for the St. Baldricks Foundation.
Saturday's event raised over $33,000 for the foundation, which funds childhood cancer research. Organizers said they had a goal of $35,000, but have raised over $100,000 in just the past five years.
For those who attended and those who put the event on, it's was about more than just getting a new 'do.
Brian Maher, Mayor of Walden aid, “Robbie Brown, the event organizer, start this campaign in Walden because his seven-year-old niece died of cancer. Her name was Megan, and it really hurt this community a great deal. So we all galvanized around her and around her memory, and every year we raise money in her honor, and those around that are suffering as well."
