MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Multiple families were forced out of their homes after two fires broke out in Middletown Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to 11 Grant Street for a third alarm fire in a three story apartment building. They say the flames were heavy on second and third floors.

The Red Cross responded to help the displaced families.

Minutes later, crews were called to a third alarm fire on Ridge Street. They say everyone in the building was able to get out safely.

Eleven adults and four children were also provided with emergency housing, clothes and food by the Red Cross.

There is no word yet on what sparked either fire.
