ALBANY, N.Y. -- Bethlehem police say the Delmar man accused in a fatal hit-and-run went to the police station the night of the accident.
Sources tell YNN that Ian Eckardt-Rigberg, 19, hit Rozell Whitehead, 53, with his car on Henry Johnson Boulevard in Albany Saturday night, then drove off. Whitehead was pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center.
Sources also tell us Eckardt-Rigberg had a restricted New York State driver's license because of several tickets and a couple of accidents, and at least one of the tickets was for speeding.
Albany police have not officially released the driver's name at this point because charges have not been filed yet. They do say the person they've questioned is cooperating with detectives and the car has been recovered.
State Police confirmed Monday that troopers tried to pull the driver over for speeding on I-90 Saturday night shortly before the accident. The pursuit was called off after the driver got off at the Arbor Hill exit and onto Henry Johnson.
