SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Police aren't releasing much information on what happened, except that 8-year old Sha’hiim Nelligan's death was the direct result of a physical dispute he got into with his grandmother.

Autopsy results came back Sunday, ruling Nelligan's death a homicide. The boy's grandmother and legal guardian, 43-year old Gloria Nelligan was arrested shortly after, and charged with manslaughter in the first degree.

Police were called to the boy's Mynderse Avenue home Saturday morning after he was found unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at Ellis Hospital.

Police have not said how exactly the boy was killed.

Schenectady Police Lt. Mark McCracken said, "There was a dispute a day or two prior to his being found in an unresponsive state. That directly led to his death."

Police don't know who may have witnessed the dispute, but they said three other juveniles live in the home with Nelligan and his grandmother. The home is being treated as a crime scene.

Gloria Nelligan is expected to be arraigned Monday morning.
