ALBANY, N.Y. -- Two similar accidents happen within feet of each other in Albany.

Around 9 p.m. Friday night a 42-year-old man was crossing Central Avenue when he was hit by a car travelling east.

The man suffered serious injuries, including several broken bones and a shattered leg. Police say he is expected to survive. There are no charges or arrests at this time.

Meanwhile, just a short while before that accident, family and friends gathered to remember a young woman who was hit and killed on Central Avenue one day earlier.

Katherine Parker, 28, was hit while trying to cross the street on Central Ave Thursday, and later died. People gathered across the street from where she was hit, lighting candles for the woman they say meant so much to them.

"I lost my greatest best friend ever. And a lot of people out here tonight, lost friends. Someone you could lean on, talk to.
Someone that makes you smile when you've had a bad day," said Tameeka Cowley, a friend of the victim.

The driver of the car in this accident, a 68-year-old woman, was not injured. No tickets have been issued at this point; but, police are still investigating what led to the crash.
