NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- February break is underway for many kids, but time off from school doesn't necessarily mean time off from homework.

Some parents in the Hudson Valley are not happy about that. More than 60 parents from the New Paltz School District in Ulster County have signed an online petition, calling for no homework over school breaks.

The petition, hosted on the site change.org, cites research that says homework can have a harmful effect on students. Some parents are calling homework quote "a constant stressor" and believe their kids could be more productive after serious rest and relaxation.

The petition asks that New Paltz Central School District does not assign homework to middle and high school students during breaks and holidays.
