HUDSON FALLS, N.Y. -- Tricia Denier and other members of Jesse Smith's family gathered at Juckett Park to remember toddler. A boy they say rarely ever cried.

"He was always happy, smiling," said Heather Clark, a cousin.

"Everybody that was always talking about him, he was always smiling. Always happy," said Diana Rawlins, a cousin.

Police say the 15-month-old was killed last February 15th by his father. To honor the boy, family members released balloons.

Denier said, "If we let the balloon off, he knows we haven't forgotten about him. We are still fighting for him."

Smith's father, Gary Waite, is awaiting trial in the case, but family members say they aren't looking for justice. They just wish they had their boy back.

"People need to support their family," Rawlins said.

Denier said, “It's not just about Jesse. If we find another family that's going through this, we're going to be there for him."
