The U.S. Postal Service is making some service changes. It affects when you can get your mail. Our Megan Cruz has the details.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- "I'm actually okay with that," said Colonie resident Julie VanAmburgh.

"Doesn't bother me one bit," said Jay Miner, also from Colonie.

Bill Couser from Loudonville said, "I think it's a great idea."

Reaction from Capital Region residents to the news that starting in August, the U.S. Postal Service will no longer deliver mail on Saturdays.

"We want to be here for the future. And these changes we feel are necessary to ensure the Postal Service is here for years to come," said Albany Postmaster Joe Finan.

According to the Postal Service, doing away with Saturday delivery will save them $2 billion, money Finan says they desperately need. Last year, he says the Postal Service lost $15.9 billion.

"Most people pay bills online now," said Finan. "That was all mail we had before for years and years. That's went away."

While the mailing of letters, magazines and newspapers are down, Finan says package delivery is up 14 percent since 2010. That's why packages will still be delivered Saturday.

Good news for businesses.

"No Saturday or Sunday and if there's a holiday Monday, that's basically four days an animal or person's not going to get the medication they need," said Rich Manzer. He works for the NY Farm Bureau. "So it's very good that the Postal Service is going to continue the parcel delivery on Saturday."

Post offices will remain open Saturdays and if you have a PO box, your mail will be delivered.

Customers give their stamp of approval.

"I don't always check my mail on weekends anyway because of how busy and if it could save some money here and there," said VanAmburgh.
