ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany drivers spent more than 13,000 hours in traffic delays last year. That's according to a new study by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.

Researchers looked at traffic congestion across the United States. The study found drivers in Albany each spent 31 hours in delays per year; and, wasted more than 8,000 gallons of gas. Albany ranked 50th in the country in the study.

Nationally, researchers said traffic congestion was the worst in Washington DC, with drivers each spending 67 hours in delays per year. Other cities that ranked the worst for congested traffic include Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, and Boston.

Researchers found that drivers spend an average of an hour to make a 20 minute trip.
