Police are busy investigating a suspicious death in the City of Kingston after a 45-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her home. YNN’s Alexandra Weishaupt has more on the case.

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- It was devastating news for residents along 3rd Avenue when their neighbor Anita Jacobs-Royer was found dead in her home.

“The detective was in the house last night and I got tears. She’s a nice girl,” said neighbor Dale Arnold.

Dale Arnold says the 45-year-old jewelry maker has been going through a divorce with her husband, Scott Royer, who is an English teacher at Kingston High School, and was most likely staying at their place alone.

“She has a friend that she’d been in close contact with on a regular basis who was concerned that she hadn’t heard from her, so she called the police and ask that the police would drive by and see if everything is okay,” said Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright.

But Jacobs-Royer wasn't okay and an investigation into her death ensued.

Sunday evening, officials began canvassing the neighborhood for clues, conducting interviews and waiting on autopsy results to establish a timeline.

“We’ve gotten some information from neighbors. We start from when we learn of the death and we move backwards. We try to retrace her steps and find out where she’s been and who’s been with her,” said Carnright.
