AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- Former major league baseball player Dwight Gooden made an appearance in the Capital Region.

Gooden was the keynote speaker at the Amsterdam Mohawks Baseball Hall of Fame dinner Saturday night. After the dinner, he also took some time out to talk with fans and sign autographs.

Gooden says he always enjoys these types of events.

You know, as a player, everything is so quick, you're on the field, you sign an autograph real quick, you take a picture real quick, you say hi. You don't really have a chance to really conversate, reminisce a little bit. Coming to an event like this, meeting the fans who supported me on and off the field, get to spend time with them, get to talk about things. There's no rush and that's really great,” Gooden said.

The former Major Leaguer was the rookie of year with the Mets and threw a no hitter with the Yankees.
