ALBANY, N.Y. -- In an effort to eliminate illegal gun sales, State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced an agreement with New York State Arms Collectors Association Incorporated for the gun show this weekend at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

The AG's office says the association has agreed to follow Model Gun Show Procedures. Under these procedures, guns brought in to the show by private sellers will be tagged.
The hope is when the gun leaves, the operator can tell if the gun was sold and if a proper background check was performed.

The AG's office says the rules came about following a 2011 investigation showing a large number of private gun sales that happened without a background check. Gun show operators are also required to post signs and give written notice that state law requires a background check before a sale is completed.
