ALBANY, N.Y. -- Four months after three puppies were found mutilated on the railroad tracks in Albany, police have made an arrest in the case.

Officials say Anthony Walker, 30, of Albany, has now been charged with abandonment of a disabled animal. But police aren't revealing much more about the circumstances surrounding the abuse.

Last September, a railroad worker found the three pit bull pups. Each had a severe injury to their rear left paw.

Humane Society officials say the arrest is welcome news in a case that, at first, looked like a long shot.

"I had my doubts about catching someone. When you just find on an abandoned stretch or railroad track on a road that isn't well traveled, it seems to me like the chances of finding someone were pretty slim, that's why I was so surprised and impressed that someone was actually found," said Brad Shear, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society Executive Director.

One of the puppies died from those injuries.

So far, the $7,000 reward that's been offered for information has not been claimed.
