ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Albany County Legislature has passed a resolution to form a local land bank. The program will allow the county to make better use of neglected properties and build better neighborhoods.
The measure passed by a unanimous vote.
Lands banks can avoid the process of auctioning off buildings to the highest bidder, which usually leads to demolition.
County Executive Dan McCoy supported the measure and in a statement said, “I support any opportunity that will improve our community, transform urban blight into a source of economic development, and allow us to return vacant, abandoned, and taxed delinquent properties to a more productive use."
