PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- "I think it's very good she understands that Massachusetts extends beyond 495," said Jack Spencer, a Stockbridge resident.

Spencer brings up a common concern among residents who tend to feel isolated in Western Massachusetts.

But on Tuesday, Senator Warren tried to tackle that issue meeting with supporters and local officials who voiced their initiatives for Berkshire County. They touched upon education, public safety and technology with the senator, who took down notes during the conversation.

"We've got to get our kids well educated for the future. But we've also got to have strong infrastructure, sewers and water, you know, not very sexy stuff, but really important stuff if we're going to attract the right industry going forward," said Senator Warren.

The senator opened an office in Springfield, the only one in Western Massachusetts. Still, she says she plans to continue the conversation with Berkshire County residents by starting an outreach program.

"Meeting with local officials. Meeting with people in towns and small continues all across Western Mass," she said.

It's an ambitious agenda for Warren who assumed office less than a week ago. But as she toured the Berkshire Museum and the Colonial Theatre, those initiatives took a backseat, at least for a little while.

"We're really looking forward to having her back and for her really paying attention to the issues that are unique to the Berkshires," said State Representative Tricia Farley Bouvier of the 3rd Berkshire District.
