GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- One person was taken to the hospital following an early morning fire in Guilderland. It happened at 4 a.m. Thursday at a home on Chaucer Place.

The fire was fully involved when firefighters arrived. They had a tough time battling the fire at first because when they arrived, the fire hydrants were frozen. Firefighters say they're prepared for the freezing temperatures when out on a call.

"It's all in about mindset. The minute we leave the firehouse on mornings like this, we're prepared to deal with anything, from frozen hydrants to freezing ground. And that means, every hand is busy here throwing salt, sand down, to make sure there's traction, and keeping water moving is very important," said Sean McGuire, Guilderland Fire Dept. Spokesperson.

The person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
