MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.Y. -- A longtime Montgomery County Sheriff has died. Ronald Emory served for 23 years, before retiring in 1997.

In a joint statement, Sheriff Michael Amato and Undersheriff Jeffrey Smith said, "This is a huge loss for the law enforcement community and the people of Montgomery County."
