HALFMOON, N.Y. -- Firefighters from several local departments made the trip to Western New York this weekend.

We spoke with some of them after they arrived back in the Capital Region.

Many say making the trip was the right thing to do to support their fellow firefighters.

“There were thousands of fellow firefighters from all around the country actually in attendance. It really was a fantastic example of the brotherhood we often talk about. We use the word brotherhood and sisterhood quite often as firefighters. But deep down, we couldn't do this job unless we fully believed and fully knew that our brother and sister firefighters would be there when we needed them,” said John D’Alessandro, Halfmoon Fire Department PIO.

Some firefighters traveled from as far away as Orange County, California to attend the services.
