COLUMBIA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Several bands came together to support victims of Superstorm Sandy on Saturday.

The "Rocking for the Rockaways" benefit was held at the Blue Store Restaurant in the Town of Livingston where the restaurant owner agreed to turn over the keys for the all-day event.

Attendees dropped off wrapped and unwrapped gifts, all of which will be delivered to families in New York's Rockaways.

The event's organizer said the idea actually came from his daughter.

"My daughter and I were sitting there watching the news one night and she saw the houses burned down and the devastation to the city, so she asked if we could do something. One thing led into the other and it snowballed into the 13 bands and over 100 volunteers and everything else from that point on," said organizer Jim Rushmore.

All of the gifts and donations will be brought down to New York with assistance from the FDNY.
