SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Months after first learning Schenectady Police Chief Mark Chaires is retiring, we’ve learned when he'll be leaving office.

Chaires' last day on the job will be December 31st, 2012.

The Hamilton Hill Arts Center Board of Directors has announced Chairs will serve as the group's executive director.

Chaires is a 24 year vet of the police department.

The search for a new police chief in Schenectady continues.
