ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Former State Comptroller Alan Hevesi is now out of prison. He was released Wednesday morning. Officials say a state parole board approved his parole during a hearing last month.

Hevesi's son, Assemblyman Andy Hevesi, drove to the Mid State Correctional facility in Oneida County early Wednesday morning. The car entered the facility just before 8 a.m.

We spoke to Andy Hevesi today and he said the family is happy to have him back and they planned to drive straight home to Queens.

The 72-year-old was sentenced to one-to-four years in prison in 2011 after pleading guilty to charges in connection with a massive pay to play pension scandal. Under the terms of his parole, he must report within 24 hours of his release to his parole officer.

Hevesi cannot leave New York State without permission, take illegal drugs or own a firearm. He also cannot communicate with his co-conspirators in the scandal.
