POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- It's the time of year to "Make a Child Smile," and that's exactly what members of the New York State Correction and Benevolent Association were doing on Saturday.
Employees at Green Haven Correctional Facility collected $2,700 in donations and all of it went to buying new toys. The toys were then delivered to the Greater Hudson Valley Toy Drive for needy kids.
“It's not holiday specific, we just want to make sure that someone has something to open on the holiday of their choice. For us it's Christmas, but for everybody else we just want to make kids smile all throughout the Hudson Valley,” said Jeffrey Erns, President, CEO, Make A Child Smile.
The group was able to collect three full SUVs full of toys to deliver to local kids.
