Memorial held for crash victim Chris Stewart

Friends, family, and community members came out to honor a victim from last weekend's deadly Northway crash. YNN's Beth Croughan was in Round Lake, where they held a memorial service for 17-year-old Chris Stewart.

ROUND LAKE, N.Y. -- "Inspirational. Like, just the presence he had," said Shenendehowa sophomore Warren Shaw. Shaw said that's what it was like to be on the football field alongside Varsity Captain Chris Stewart.

Shaw was among the hundreds who came to honor Chris Saturday, because an honor, he said, it was to have known him. "I learned so much from him, both on the football field and personally," said Shaw.

As Shen Superintendent Dr. Oliver Robinson spoke to the crowd inside Round Lake's Corpus Christi Church, he said the 17-year-old student-athlete lived a short life, but will leave a long legacy. That life was cut short last Saturday after a two-car crash on the Northway.

"Chris could affect this many people, I mean, it's not surprising. But it definitely, it opens up your eyes to see such a good person, do such good things for our community," said long-time friend Connor Center.

And if you were part of the community lucky enough to have known Chris, Center said you would know how hard it is to sum him up, simply. "It's kindness, it's the goofiness. You can't put one thing on Chris, because there's so many things. You just can't even begin to try," he said.
