Port Authority toll hike takes effect Sunday

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- Beginning Sunday, drivers will be shelling out extra money to pay for tolls on some Port Authority bridges and tunnels.

Cars paying cash will now be charged an additional dollar for the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel and Holland Tunnel. Cars paying with an E-Z Pass are paying an additional 75 cents.

The biggest increase, though, is for trucks. They'll will see a two dollar increase per axle, which means a five axle truck will be paying an extra $10 in tolls.

The Port Authority is raising tolls to help pay for the new World Trade Center Complex.

Pending the outcome of a lawsuit by AAA, the next phase of toll hikes will take effect next year.
