ALBANY, N.Y. -- Following the fatal stabbing of Tonette Thomas, Assemblyman Jim Tedisco is once again pushing for legislation to prevent domestic violence.

Tedisco says the "Chronic Criminal Act" could have prevented the young woman's death since Michael Anderson had a criminal history.

"As a criminal, even if they are misdemeanors, after four, would make this a class E felony on the fourth misdemeanor and that would be one to four years in prison," said Tedisco.

Tedisco introduced the Chronic Criminal Act after the 2006 murders of Hillary and Romello Downey. Their murderer, Kareem Hayes, had a long track record of misdemeanor offenses.
