HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls community came out to welcome home the new Class C high school football state champions.

The Panthers defeated perennial champion Hornell 34 to 21 for their first ever football state championship.

The team's bus returned to the school escorted by emergency vehicles after leading a parade through the town, much to the delight of excited fans who had lined the streets in anticipation.

"The community's been behind us all year and it's been the best. We couldn't ask for a better town to come home to. There's everybody out and we literally shut the town down to come to this game. It was the best," said Brandon Hodges.

It's the second state title for the school this year. Last weekend, the girls soccer team also won the state championship.
