LATHAM, N.Y. – A blue spruce from Vista Avenue in Latham will light up Empire State Plaza this holiday season. It was planted more than 20 years ago and has grown to 30 feet tall.

Workers cut down the tree Friday morning. They tried to do so earlier this week but had mechanical issues. The tree was donated by Lise Poolet of Latham, who says it was hard to see the tree go.

"I have mixed emotions on it because I've had it for so long. But I think I made the right decision to let it go. I'm not going to put anything there because I don't think anything could take its place," said Poolet.

A ceremony to light the tree will take place in early December.
