SCHOHARIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Tax payers in Schoharie County will get their chance to weigh in today on the proposed county budget for 2013. The $77.52 million budget is calling for a tax levy increase of 2.8 percent.

Next year's proposed plan would bring back positions and services that were cut in 2012 as a result of Tropical Storm Irene. The county treasurer is anticipating that the jail will reopen sometime next year, which would bring back five corrections officers’ positions.

The finance committee met last week to look over the budget before it goes to the public today. Today's public meeting takes place at 5 p.m. on the third floor of the county office building in Schoharie.
