With Thanksgiving just two weeks away, area non-profits are making preparations for their annual dinners. As our Beth Croughan tells us, there is still a lot of donations needed to help local families this holiday.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A truckload of turkeys traveled on Friday, from the Price Chopper Distribution Center to Empire State Plaza.

"11,100 pounds of turkey, which is 5 and a half tons of turkey, it's about 850 turkeys," said Lea Bosquez, the Director of Development and Community Relations at Equinox.

It's the supermarket's donation to the annual Equinox Thanksgiving Dinner in Albany.

A dinner, just two weeks away, that is expected to feed about 9,500 people.

"Incrementally, we've increased it a few hundred every year, and we think the need is certainly as great as it was last year, and maybe even more," Bosquez said.

Perry Jones is the Executive Director of the Capital City Rescue Mission. He said the number they serve each Thanksgiving goes up by a few hundred too.

"We're preparing 2,000 meals for anybody that needs a place to come for Thanksgiving, including the people that stay here," said Jones.

Its a labor of love for head chef Max Ansong whose been making the meal for the last 16 years.

"I think in life, the meaning of life is that if you can make somebody's life a little bit better, and I think the mission is doing that and I'm glad I'm a part of it," said Ansong.

Both organizations said they are in need of more donations and volunteers so that thousands in the Capital Region have a hot meal to be thankful for this holiday.
