ALBANY, N.Y. -- The yellow house on the hill turns 225! The community came together to celebrate the birthday of historic Cherry Hill Wednesday.

The event started with an outdoor reception. Those who attended were able to tour the historic house and view some rarely-seen 18th century objects and manuscripts.

The house was built in 1787 for a wealthy merchant named Philip Van Rensselaer and his wife, Maria. It was lived in by four generations of Philip’s descendants and now stands as a nationally renowned historic house museum.

"The wonderful thing about Cherry Hill is the continuity the fact that this family lived here for almost 200 years. In one sense, makes it a 20th century home, where as if you go to Schuyler Mansion, which is a state historic site, they show you it as it was lived in the 18th century," said Liselle LaFrance, Cherry Hill Director.

Wednesday's celebration also highlighted a rare 18th-century textile that the house is lending to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
