A giant pig startled commuters on their way to work Thursday morning when it was spotted off Exit 11 of the Northway. It took a team of officers and volunteers to get the 650 lb. pig safely corralled. Lori Chung has more.

ROUND LAKE, N.Y. -- Lost, alone, and a long way from the farm. A 650 lb. pig made a memorable commute for drivers near Exit 11 of the Northway - and a new experience for Malta Animal Control.

Town of Malta Animal Control Officer Dominic Refino said, "Lost pigs? I mean, this is the first one that I've done in my time."

Wilton and Malta Animal Control joined State Police around 8 a.m. Thursday after calls poured in about a wandering pig on Round Lake Road. But getting him back home proved tricky.

Refino said, "Tried the ropes. The ropes didn't work very well."

But a few sheets of ply wood...

"With the boards it makes it a little easier because the pig can't see exactly what we are doing," Refino explained.

A team of officers and some volunteer farmers did the trick.

"He's a tall, 650 lb. pig probably. Now he's going home," said Stanley Hatalsky.

Police believe he wandered away from a home on Sweet Road in Ballston, about a miles away. Though the pig suffered a few harrowing few moments during his outing, officials are glad he's back where he belongs.
