ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The winner of the Hudson Valley Voice competition was crowned Friday night. The finalists sang their hearts out at the Lazy Swan Golf and Country Club in Saugerties.
Aubrey Haddard of Gardiner, Liam Roberts of Catskill and Caitlin Connelly of Hyde Falls performed three songs each in the final round for a chance to win $10,000 and a brand new car.
The competition is an American Idol, panel-style show with a live audience where the contestants sing all different styles of music.
Auditions began back in June and the finalists say it's been a long and exciting journey.
In the end, Connelly, a restaurant worker and student, was the winner. She says being herself is what took her to the end.
"I think it’s more about just taking from as many artists as you can and bringing together your own thing and your own feelings and your own experiences, your own emotions and then putting that on stage so other people can really connect to it. So it's been a long haul, but I really enjoyed it," said Connelly.
Roberts and Haddard tied for second, each taking home $4,000.
