NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- A community mourns the death of a soldier from North Adams who was killed in Afghanistan this week.

PFC Michael Demarsico was deployed to Afghanistan in February of 2011.

School officials tell us he was a graduate of North Adams High School in 2010 and was talented in technology and engineering. They said he had a vision of serving his country and it was his dream to join the Army after graduation.

His family said he wanted to be a soldier since he was a child and he always thought of other people.

Aunt Laurie Douglas said, "Michael always put other people before himself, mainly his family and friends. He'd do anything for anybody. That's why he was there."

There's no word yet on a cause of death.
