SCOTIA, N.Y. -- A 10-year-old girl who said a man tried to lure her into his car last Friday has admitted she made up the story.

Last week, the girl told Scotia police that a man offered her candy while she was riding her scooter on Cartwheel Drive. She even gave a description of the man and his vehicle, and police were asking the public for help in the investigation.

On Thursday, the girl's mother called police to report that the child said she saw the same green car and suspect go by their residence. While being interviewed by an officer, the girl admitted that she made up both stories because she felt she wasn't getting enough attention from her parents since the birth of a sibling.

Police said the girl will not face any charges.
