SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- An abandoned restaurant caught fire this morning and spread to a neighboring building.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. on the 1100 block of Barrett Street in Schenectady. The building was the old Luigi's Restaurant.

Investigators are concerned with how the fire started in a vacant building. They say people may have been in after it was abandoned.

"A rear door appeared to be locked, when in reality it wasn't locked. And the basement in the exposure building was full of water, which may indicated all the copper's been taken out of there," said Michael Della Rocco, Schenectady Fire Chief.

Fire officials said the building next door may have significant structure damage and could collapse. It was also abandoned at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries reported.
